Our History
The church at Kilpatrick has always been a church on the move. It was founded and built in 1871 on the original site, the very corner of Barnum and Clark Roads, Woodland Township. In 1933 the church was struck by lightening and destroyed. An old empty Methodist church (4 miles West on Barnum Road), was acquired and moved by placing the church on logs and pulling it down the road by horses. This process took all summer, but it eventually became our place of worship. In 1956, Clark Road (M-66) was improved and widened and the church building was again moved to the East of the corner to allow for the road expansion, to where it presently sits on the top of the hill.
Our Vision
Even more important than the physical moving of the building, Kilpatrick has been a church on the move for Christ and continues that tradition through this present day. We believe that the Word of God is living and active and relevant for our lives and for the issues of life that we face each day. We believe that knowing who Jesus Christ is and trusting in His word are the starting points for living a life of peace, joy and happiness. We believe that Jesus came that we might have a new life and have it in abundance.
Our desire is that Kilpatrick will be remembered in the years to come as the church on the move . . . .
- A church that moves forward with the word of God
- A church that moves forward in proclaiming the Gospel in a relevant way.
- A church on the move in its community, in its schools, in its country and in its world.
- A church that is willing to slide over in its seats so that others may find the love, peace, joy, acceptance and grace of God through His son, Jesus.
Kilpatrick Church Everyday Commission Statement
That we would become (through the under-girding of prayer), a church that builds it’s membership by reaching the lost for Jesus Christ, bringing them into the acceptance and community of believers. equipping them to become vital members of Christ’s body, in order that they too will reach the lost for Jesus Christ.
